THE HIMAY CO. MUSIC WRAP (January 5th, 2012 Overnight Edition)
Kendra Chantell's housecleaning blues. Dexter Haygood's accidental tweet. Emily Michalak's words of wisdom. Slate.com's Dana Stevens' advice to Himay Co and shared thoughts on Benedict Cumberbatch. Eric Alper on the Kelly Clarkson endorsement of Ron Paul sales fallout. Casey Weston writes with and promotes Nicolle Gaylon for Season 2 of The Voice as Himay Co. promotes her website. Jordyn Malloy follows Himay Co. back and earns a plug.
Pretty interesting past couple of days of Twitter and other online activities for me. Have more organized thoughts and blogs to come so I'll just unleash the following random communications in the meantime for any curious minds to ponder if they choose to read further. And of course I wholeheartedly encourage this.
American Idol Season 10 finalist Kendra Chantelle lamented having to do her own cleaning today but she seemed more enthusiastic once I suggested to her that someday she'll be able to afford help because of her music career. I invite Kendra to do a write-up session with me for her own marketing/PR purposes to promote her career and most notably her debut album Unthinkable which is in stores now.
Dexter Haygood accidentally thanked himself on Twitter tonight to which I brought it to his attention. He asked me if he should thank himself [anyway] and I told him to definitely do so. He had said it was accident. I was quite pleased he didn't accidentally follow me back tonight as he was one of my favorites from Season 1 of The X Factor this year and I asked him if he's writing and recording, whether with Xavion or as a solo artist, or even both. I look forward to his answer if and when I get one and I'll post it if and when it becomes available. Dexter has an open invitation from Himay Co. to do an in depth media session together.
Emily Michalak of Intensity tweeted some rather wise advice and I applauded her for it which she latter favored. However, after realizing she marks a lot of tweets as favorites, I felt somewhat less special but I still think this young lady can be a legitimate star, whether as part of a group or as a solo act, if given the right opportunity and circumstances and I still think quite highly of her.
Shifting gears from singers to critics, I had a brief exchange with Slate.com movie critic Dana Stevens. Dana is one of the premiere critics of our time and I initially tweeted her to express my approval of 35 year-old British actor Benedict Cumberbatch and to declare how underrated and brilliant he is in my honest opinion. As was my guess, Dana concurred with me that Cumberbatch will soon be be a big deal after stellar supporting roles in 2011. I couldn't help but inject how great is that someone my age was on the cusp of stardom for which Dana had some words of encouragement for me. I had the final say in the exchange but I must admit I consider myself somewhat star struck because I hold Dana in such high esteem; even when I severely disagree with one of her reviews.
Mixing entertainment with politics is always risky business for the entertainers. You're bound to annoy at least 40-50% of your possible fan base whether they stop supporting you or not. Himay Co. was one of the first to report on the Kelly Clarkson endorsement of Ron Paul and Jonathan Karl of ABC News had reported on This Week on the New Year's Day edition that Kelly Clarkson's sales were up by 200%. The Karl segment starts at 2:14, his "trending" portion at 4:43, the part about Clarkson at 5:03 and it concludes at 5:32. Toronto, Ontario based eOne Music PR man and overall social media guru Eric Alper about tweeted about a rebuttal to this claim. The cross between music and politics was intriguing enough for me since I follow both so closely (it was only missing a sports angle as far as I'm concerned) so I decided to ask Alper what his take on things were and what his numbers were. Alper responded with some pretty hard numbers. My follow up tweet was not responded to but Alper has a decent sized following so I chalked it up to that. Hope he saw the praise I heaped on him nevertheless.
Casey Weston of The Voice tweeted about a writing session with upcoming Season 2 singer Nicolle Gaylon Thursday Night. Gaylon apparently is quite confident in her abilities so I already can't wait to check her out. In fact, you can too by going to her rather interestingly done website. I will be writing about this young lady sometime over the next few weeks and quite possibly for some time to come as well. Both Casey and Nicolle have open invitations to do a media write-up session with Himay Co.
Finally, a shout-out to to the very lovely young singer-songwriter Jordyn Malloy for the follow back on Twitter. I extend an invitation to Jordyn for an in depth write-up about her music and anything else on her mind she wishes to discuss. Make sure to check out her website as well. Of course, please feel free to follow me as well on Twitter. I have several more projects to come over the upcoming days and weeks, especially concerning the upcoming American Idol and The Voice seasons, as well as some special blogs on various artists, actors, and other intriguing figures and personalities.
As usual, please stay tuned.
- Jamie
SIDE NOTES: Did anybody else watch the incredible gold medal game between Russia and eventual winners Sweden in the World Juniors Championship on the NHL Network Thursday Night? Mika Zibanejad's unbelievably heads up reading of the play lead to this dramatic mini-breakaway goal in the 1-0 OT thriller which gave Sweden its first WJC gold medal since 1981. What a game and finish.
