In its first effort with original lead singer David Lee Roth since 1996's "Can't Get Enough of This Stuff" and "Me Wise Magic" from their Best of Van Halen, Vol. 1 compilation, the new single "Tattoo" was unleashed in a media blitz overnight on Monday.
The single is the legendary rock band's first track off their upcoming album A Different Kind of Truth (Deluxe Edition). With just 301 video hits at the time of this posting of the link from the band's official YouTube account, that number is sure to skyrocket by the time people are on their way to work Tuesday Morning. The song is also the first original song to be heard by the public with Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang (and Alex's nephew) on bass. Original bassist Michael Anthony, know for his trademark backing vocals, is currently the bassist in the supergroup Chickenfoot with former Van Halen lead singer Sammy Hagar.
According to Van Halen's official Facebook page, the song is now available for download on iTunes and you can preorder the album which comes out February 7, 2012. Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx posted on his own page that he had just heard the new Van Halen song and had asked for feedback from his fans.
Eddie Van Halen tweeted the link about the new single on his official Twitter account. Just two minutes earlier he tweeted the video link to "Tattoo" and had already been retweeted by dozens of fans. Also sure to add to the spontaneous buzz is the purported track listing as shown on iTunes. The following is what appears to be the official track listing for A Different Kind of Truth:
